An Insight into the Separation of 1,2-Propanediol, Ethylene Glycol, Acetol and Glycerol from an Aqueous Solution by Adsorption on Activated Carbon

چکیده

Glycerol conversion processes such as aqueous phase reforming and hydrogenolysis generate value-added compounds highly diluted in water. Because distillation is a high energy demand separation step, adsorption could be an attractive alternative to recover these chemicals. Adsorption isotherms of 1,2-propanediol, acetol, ethylene glycol glycerol onto activated carbon were determined by batch experiments. These fitted slightly better the Freundlich equation than Langmuir equation. Acetol compound with highest at concentrations smaller 1 M. Properties adsorbate −OH group number, chain length, molecular size dipole moment, besides characteristics adsorbent surface area, oxygen ash content, are considered explain observed results. Moreover, experiments performed mixtures it was that molar amount adsorbed less predicted from individual treated separately. In addition, influence thermal pre-treatment temperature on capacity has been studied, optimum being 800 °C. An analysis showed most important parameters total pore volume content.

Removal of chromium (VI) from aqueous solution by adsorption using cousinia eryngioides boiss and activated carbon

Adsorption capacity of Cr (VI) onto cousinia eryngioides boiss, activated carbon was investigated in a batch system by considering the effects of various parameters like contact time, initial concentration, pH, temperature, agitation speed, absorbent dose and particle size. Cr (VI) removal is pH dependent and found to be maximum at pH 2.0. The amounts of Cr (VI) adsorbed increased with increase...

Adsorption of diazinon from aqueous solutions onto an activated carbon sample produced in Iran

Background: Considering the severe health and environmental hazards caused by the entry of diazinon toxin into water resources, its removal is very important. Given the high costs of imported adsorbents, this research attempted to evaluate, for the first time, the efficiency of Iranian activated carbon in removing diazinon from aqueous solutions. Methods: In this batch experimental study, the ...

Adsorption kinetics of polyethylene glycol from aqueous solution onto activated carbon.

The adsorption equilibrium and kinetics of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in three aqueous systems were examined in this study. Langmuir isotherm was used to satisfactorily predict the adsorption capacity of PEG on activated carbon F-400 and applied to the investigation of adsorption kinetics. The surface diffusion, pore diffusion, and branched pore kinetics models successfully described the adsorpt...
